Tips on Selling - Notes from the Hoose Doctor

THE DÉCOR OF YOUR HOME MAY MAKE OR BREAK THE SALE

As awful as it may seem not every one will approve of your chosen décor, although you may regard green polka dots on the ceiling as very chic. If you don’t want to put off your potential buyer they must go!

Here are a few points, which may help:

DO

Make sure your garden/patio front door look neat and tidy (not like a war zone)

Give window frames and doors a lick of paint where required.

Clean windows (some people like to think they are transparent)

Clean entire property, air the rooms

IF FINANCE PERMITS

Replace coloured bathroom suits with white (browns are out)

Rip out old carpets and replace with polished floors

Paint smaller rooms light colours to increase appearance of space

Paint over bold colours, using subtle colours (white or magnolia never fail!)

DO NOT

Rip out period features (even if you don’t like them)

Clutter rooms

Mix heavy assorted designs

Put up with dated wall paper

Use wood chip paper to cover uneven walls (surveyors will notice!)

SHOWING PEOPLE AROUND YOUR PROPERTY

Do - switch all the lights on before they arrive, do not switch them off again till they have gone (doing so may make them paranoid)

Do - Let them go into the room first

Do not - block their view

If it is a small room such as the bathroom, stay out as not to overcrowd the room (no need to pretend you are sardines).

Do not sound like a dodgy sales person

Do let common sense rule!

IT’S YOUR MOVE . . .

GOOD LUCK
