Musselburgh is a delightful coastal town, formerly in Midlothian and now in East Lothian, with beautiful surrounding countryside.  Edinburgh city centre is only 15 minutes away by car and it is a 2 minute drive to the A1 and city by-pass.  There are regular bus services to Edinburgh, Leith and the main East Lothian towns.  Musselburgh is served by local primary and secondary schools and Loretto school is there.  Local facilities include an indoor pool, sports centre and horse livery yard.  The High Street is very attractive, being wide and tree-lined and leading on to the landscaped banks of the river Esk.  The town offers a good selection of shops, supermarkets, restaurants and cafes.  It is also home to a race course (often known as 'Edinburgh race course') and a golf course, which some say is the oldest in Europe.
